Sessions Court Organisation Chart (Criminal)

  • Sessions Court - Trying all criminal offenses within the criminal jurisdiction of the Sessions Court (Section 63 of the Subordinate Courts Act 1948)
  • Magistrates’ Court – Trying all criminal offenses for which the maximum penalty does not exceed 10 years’ imprisonment or with a fine only (Section 85 of the Subordinate Courts Act 1948)
  • Regulating the staff of the Registry of Sessions Courts & Magistrates’ Court (Criminal).
  • Managing the registration and review of criminal cases including committal cases to the High Court, Commercial Crimes, Drugs, Sexual Crimes, Corruption, Prevention of Money Laundering, Department Summons, Judicial Review, Criminal Applications, cases under section 108 of the Criminal Procedure Code, and others.
  • Issuing Warrants of Detention, Search Warrants, Warrants of Arrest, Orders to Produce, and others.
  • Managing processing and approving bail matters for cases that have been granted bail by Judges and Magistrates.
  • Signing and approving subpoenas for witnesses to appear in court to attend hearings.
  • Managing criminal appeal cases to the High Court.
  • Managing the Duty Schedule of Officers and Court members for remand matters under section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code, section 4(1)(b) of the Drug Dependents (Treatment & Rehabilitation) Act 1983.
  • Managing the preparation of statistics for the Sessions Court & Magistrates’ Court (Criminal).
